The European project “GREENLAND – GREEN-skiLls for a sustAiNable Development” was successfully launched on 16 & 17 December 2020 online. More than 70 important actors from around the Mediterranean participated in the event and exchanged views on the issues of NEETs (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) and women’s unemployment in the Mediterranean Sea basin countries and GREENALAND project approach to this problem.
In his opening speech, Mr. A. Vassilopoulos, deputy mayor of Rafina Municipality in Greece, underlined the importance of GREENLAND multi-governance approach and the significant role of local authorities who can transfer project results to the local population. Adding to this, Ms E. Amatruda, project director at the Region of Calabria in Italy, highlighted the interest of regional authorities in the market analysis and NEETs and women unemployment profiling activity that will be carried out during GREENLAND project. Moreover, the importance of the green and circular economy sectors and their potential for jobs creation in the Mediterranean was pointed out by project coordinator, Mr. N. Mayera, who explained GREENLAND methodology aiming at matching skills with market needs.
GREENLAND project is viewed as a strategic project by the Managing Authority of the ENI CBC Med Programme that provides the funding and the expectations are high. The event closed with a Q&A session, where press representatives and other stakeholders had the chance to address questions to the project partners. We anticipate with great enthusiasm GREENLAND project activities.
